Ways to Spot and Avoid Scams

Please be aware of common emails scam listed below involving persons posing as company or falsely claiming to represent the company. Give A Hand will NEVER ask for personal information or banking information over email, text or phone call. Always make sure to use our website GIVEAHAND.COM to check the status of fundraisers and to communicate with us via our official email address [email protected] or via our Help Center (help.giveahand.com).

Here are some tips on recognizing common signs of a scam.

(Examples)

  1. Scammers PRETEND to be from our company. Check the sender's email address (not just the sender name) they might use a real name, like Give A Hand or might have a small variation or misspelling. Double-check the sender's email address to make sure it's from our official support email which is [email protected]  (we never call or text asking for personal information).

  1. Scammers say there’s a PROBLEM or HOLD with accepting donations. They might say there’s a problem with one of your accounts and that you need to verify some information. Again, the email address from which they contact you does not match our official support email is an easy way to know if its a scam. Always visit your fundraiser management page to view statuses if there are issues that need to be resolved it would be displayed there.

  1. Scammers PRESSURE you to act immediately. Scammers want you to act before you have time to think. Don't fall for these tactics, and do not share any personal information

  1. Scammers FALSELY claim to donate full amount to your fundraiser. Remember it's rare for strangers to donate to fundraisers that they're not familiar with (unless if you're a public figure or have a following). Scammers will want you to believe that they want to donate in full but in exchange they will ask you to provide them your personal information. Give A Hand will NEVER ask for personal information or banking information over email, text or phone call.

  1. Be cautious with unsolicited offers, prizes, or gift cards in exchange for donations to your fundraiser. Scammers will want you to believe that they will donate to your fundraiser in exchange for you to purchase gift cards. Do not purchase gift cards or other items as Give A Hand will NEVER ask you to purchase anything.

  1. Trust your instincts: If something feels off or suspicious about an email, it's better to be safe than sorry. Reach out to a tech-savvy friend or family member for advice if you're unsure or contact us via our official email address [email protected] or via our Help Center (help.giveahand.com).

Please be aware of these common scams, and if you receive email solicitations from anyone posing as the company do not respond to these emails or communicate with the sender, and do not provide the sender with any personal or financial information. Never click on unfamiliar or unexpected links from anyone you don't know or trust.
